Teutates

Teutates the Celtic god known from the Lucan’s works, which name is consonant to words teuto, tuath — "tribe" (and tauta "people"). The description of the sacrifice devoted to him coincides with the one represented on the Gundestrup cauldron. He was identified with Mars in Roman Gallia as he possessed military meaning which is typical of such mythological type as the Celtic and German-Scandinavian God of the clear sky. His typical symbol was wild boar.

There was an opinion that identified Teutates with the head of the Gallic Olympus, whom Caesar and Tacitus called Mercury. However this opinion is erroneous; there is nothing in common among the Gallic Teutates, Roman Mercury and German Odin.
