Taranis
Taranis is the Celtic god of thunder. His name is
translated as “Thunderer” and in a number of dedications he was
identified with Jupiter. The special Celtic attributes of this
god are a wheel which could be a lightning and also a spiral
representing heavenly fire. The images of him as “the God with a
wheel” were widely in Roman Gallia. Nevertheless, it is not
casually, that a Gallic Jupiter mentioned by Caesar was only on
the fourth place. Druids recognized his power, but he did not
take a leading place in their pantheon.
