Brigantia
Brigantia
(Brigita), the daughter of Dagda, was the important female deity
of Ireland, the patron of poetry, crafts and medical treatment,
she helped women with delivery. Sometimes Brigantias name means
three female deities patronizing wisdom, art of healing and
blacksmithing.
There is a tradition to represent Brigita as
a bird with human head, or three birds cranes or cocks.
In the north of England Brigita was known
under the name Brigantia which means powerful, top, queen.
Brigantes that ruled over the northern
Britain before Roman arrival especially worshipped her.
Brigantia is the goddess of well-being, doctoring, war and
water.
In Gallia the goddess is known under name
Brigindo. Probably, it was she, whom Caesar named the Gallic
Minerva.
